The Florida League of Cities, the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, announced that two members of the City of Newberry staff have been appointed to the League’s Legislative Policy Committees. City Clerk Judy Rice was recently re-appointed to serve on the Florida League of Cities' Utilities, Natural Resources & Public Works Committee, and Director of Finance & Administration Dallas Lee was appointed to the Municipal Administration Committee. This is Clerk Rice's sixth appointment to the statewide committee.

The League’s incoming President, City of Lakeland Commissioner Phillip Walker, appointed legislative Policy Committee chairs, vice-chairs, and members.

As a Legislative Policy Committee member, Mrs. Rice and Mr. Lee will help develop the League’s Legislative Action Agenda, which details priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision-making during the upcoming legislative session, as well as help League staff, understand the real-world implications of proposed legislation. Committee members are also asked to serve as advocates for local decision-making throughout the legislative process.

Regarding her re-appointment, City Clerk Rice said, “It’s an honor and privilege to serve as a legislative policy committee member. As a dedicated public servant, I look forward to discussing with the committee the many issues facing our cities and deciding on a policy direction for the Florida League of Cities legislative efforts.”

Director Lee echoed Clerk Rice’s sentiments stating “I am pleased and excited to serve on this committee to offer a local voice to these important topics at the state level.”
