The Department of Planning and Economic Development plays a pivotal role ins shaping the urban landscape of the City of Newberry.

The Planning and Economic Development Department administers  a variety of  processes ranging from the Newberry Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations, to the the Capital Planning Program, and Intergovernmental programs.

To shape the future of Newberry by providing a blueprint of growth and change in a positive directions for the City.

To provide the City with creative and innovative guidance for the effective implementation of land use and development, ensuring the City remains a safe, vital and attractive community with an outstanding quality of life for its residents and businesses, while maintaining its historical heritage.

• 2023 Historic Resource Survey

The City of Newberry, through the assistance of a small matching grant from the Florida Division of Historic Resources, has updated its historic resource survey. This document is a compendium of historic properties that documents their architectural typology, character, craftsmanship, age, and other intangible assets such as association with historic events, people, and other cultural or societal significance.
