COVID 19 Updates April 21st - School Bus WiFi, Newberry Prints, Farm Share, and more

The City is working on a variety of initiatives to assist residents during this global pandemic. The City encourages residents to continue following the CDC's guidance of social distancing and personal hygiene. The City is continuing to operate across all departments.  We are here to help you.

The following are the latest programs the City has launched:

Farm Share

FarmShare Food Distribution is coming to Newberry on Wednesday, April 29th! Drive-Thru Distribution will be available from 9 am-12 pm at the Easton-Newberry Sports Complex (24880 NW 16th Ave). Food is first come, first served. Learn more about FarmShare at Farmshare.org (click here)

School Bus Wifi

To support students without internet access, Alachua County Public Schools has launched School Bus WiFi, a program that will send school buses equipped with free ‘hot spots’ into local communities. Beginning Monday, April 20, School Bus WiFi will be available at Newberry's Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center for three hours every weekday. Students within about 150-200 feet of the bus, either at home or in a vehicle, will be able to access the network school bus wifi. A password will not be needed, but the district is requesting that people limit the use of the network for distance learning ONLY. Students and their families are reminded to maintain social distancing when accessing the program. NO supervision will be provided, and children should NOT be left unattended at the sites.

Newberry Prints

As we continue distance learning through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, we understand there may be a need to print homework and schoolwork. That's where we come in. If you email your documents to Newberry@livehelpnow.net, we will print them and they can be picked up at the City Hall drive-thru window. If you have any questions, please call 352-472-5663 ext.148.

Community Resource Portal

Alachua County, in partnership with local governments, educational institutions, hospitals, nonprofits, and many others, has developed the Community Resource Portal. This portal can be used to ask questions, request assistance (such as food), make donations or volunteer, and find pertinent information regarding COVID-19.  This website also contains information for businesses. The site can be found at https://alachuacounty.us/covid-19

Reemployment Applications

If you need to file for Reemployment Assistance but are unable to file online or do not have access to a printer, we have copies printed for distribution at City Hall. Come through the drive-through and we will be happy to get you a copy. Please note- we cannot help you fill out the application.

We are committed to standing with our community and supporting those impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak in their time of need. Together, we will overcome this pandemic by making sure the most vulnerable among us are protected.
