City of Newberry Celebrates Florida City Government Week

My City: I'm part of it, I'm Proud of It

The City of Newberry will be joining cities throughout the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week from October 21st through 25th.

Because city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is important that residents understand how their city operates, the services it provides and the importance of their active involvement. The theme My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It will guide this year’s activities.

“Florida City Government Week is an opportunity to help our residents become more informed about the many services we provide, which will lead to more knowledgeable citizen participation in the future,” said City Manager Mike New. “We are excited about this year’s activities and hope to engage students in our upcoming events.”

In celebration the City, in partnership with the Newberry Branch Library, will be holding a "Touch-a-Truck" event at the library on Thursday, October 24th, at 3:00 pm. Students and residents will have the opportunity to learn about their local government and see Fire, Electric, and Public Works equipment up close. For more information about the event please contact City Clerk Judy Rice at 352-472-2161 ext 7.

Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a week long celebration that raises awareness about the importance of municipal government and its daily impact on residents. The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida. For more information on the Florida League of Cities please click this link.
