A Community Looks at the Newberry Six

Please join us as we begin the process of addressing tragic events in our history.

Local educator and Newberry resident, Cathy Atria will begin the convening by offering remarks introducing the Truth and Reconciliation process as a means to assist us, as a community, in advancing understanding, toleration and healing.

Local author and historian, Janis Owens, will provide a historical outline of local events based on her research. Her research spans decades and includes oral interviews of many descendants. After her talk, Ms. Owens will respond to questions and comments.

This night is the first step of many in this important process. It is my sincerest wish that each of us uses this opportunity to learn from our past and take those lessons forward to make a better tomorrow for our children.
