Drug Take Back Day

The City of Newberry is proud to partner with the Alachua County Health Promotion and Wellness Coalition, the Alachua County Sheriff, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to host a DEA Drug Take-Back Day Event this Saturday, October 24th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at our Fire Station (310 NW 250th Dr, Newberry FL).

There will be an ASO deputy on-site at all times to ensure everyone's safety. The purpose of the event is to allow community members to safely and anonymously dispose of expired or unused prescription medications and help prevent prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse/misuse.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.

We will accept all medications except sharps (ex/needles) and aerosol cans (inhalers/sprays). This is completely anonymous and no questions asked! We look forward to seeing you there!
