Newberry Fire Department Launches Knox Box Rapid Entry Program

The Newberry Fire Department is proud to introduce the Knox Box Rapid Entry System, a secure emergency access solution now available to the community. The fire department encourages its use—particularly for commercial properties, gated residences, and private homes where medical calls are frequent.

The Knox Box is a nationally recognized program that enables first responders to quickly and safely access your building or property using a tamper-resistant box that stores entry keys or devices. Only the Newberry Fire Department holds the master key to open these boxes, ensuring both security and rapid response.

“We’re encourage all business owners, gated property managers, and residents—especially those with recurring medical needs—to install a Knox Box,” said Fire Chief Jason Lyman. “Whether it’s a fire alarm, medical emergency, or welfare check, this system allows us to enter without delay or damage.”

Available Knox Entry Options:

  • Commercial Knox Boxes: For retail stores, offices, and other businesses.
  • Residential Knox Boxes: Ideal for homes where residents may have ongoing medical needs—especially seniors or those with health conditions.
  • Gate Access Systems: For gated communities, private driveways, and commercial properties with restricted access.

Without a Knox Box, firefighters may be forced to break doors or windows to reach someone in need—especially if no one can confirm the emergency from the outside. With a Knox system, responders can enter quickly, evaluate the situation, and secure the property without causing unnecessary damage.

Business owners and residents can order the correct Knox model by visiting www.knoxbox.com and selecting “Alachua County” to ensure proper registration and coordination with the Newberry Fire Department.

“Our top priority is protecting life and property,” said Chief Lyman. “These systems help us do both—faster and safer. We’re excited to bring this level of preparedness to Newberry.”
