Arbor Day Celebration
In honor of National Arbor Day and in support of the City of Newberry’s ongoing participation as a designated Tree City USA, the City is holding its annual Arbor Day Celebration at the Easton-Newberry Sports Complex next week.
Join us Thursday afternoon, November 7, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. to recognize and celebrate the importance of trees in our community. Our Arbor Day activities will take place at the Easton-Newberry Sports Complex located at 24880 NW 16th Ave, Newberry, FL 32669. Planned activities include tree planting (conducted in coordination with the Florida Forest Service), comments presented by local officials, and Arbor Day readings by members of the Newberry Community. In addition, the State Forester for Alachua County will be explaining and demonstrating best practices for tree care, and children in attendance are encouraged to participate. All interested persons are invited to attend.
Arbor Day was first observed in 1872 when J. Sterling Morton proposed that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. More than a million trees were planted in Nebraska in observance of that very first Arbor Day. 2019 is the 147th anniversary of the holiday, with Arbor Day now observed throughout the nation and the world. The City of Newberry observes Arbor Day each year, celebrating by planting trees and providing education to the community on tree care.
