Electric utility was established in 1910. The City Utility Board governed the electric utility until sometime in the 1970’s. The electric utility is governed by the City Commission.

The Electric Department provides reliable utilities to over 2,500 households and businesses within our services area. Our service area consists of approximately 5 square miles within the municipal boundaries. This includes 27.88 miles of Primary overhead distribution and 12.74 miles of Primary underground services that our Electric Department maintains.

The City of Newberry is a public power community with wholesale power purchased from Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA). Because of participation with FMPA, the City of Newberry has returned millions of dollars back into the community which has helped to enhance recreation, fire and police services, while maintaining a very reliable and efficient system. Our customers and citizens also have a say in how the utility is run.
