NEWBERRY, FL — The City of Newberry will celebrate a major milestone in regional infrastructure and environmental stewardship with the groundbreaking of its new Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant on Thursday, June 18, at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place at 26204 SW 18th Road, Newberry, Florida 32669.
The new facility represents a transformative investment in the future of Newberry and the surrounding region. Designed to provide advanced wastewater treatment capabilities, the plant will significantly improve water quality through the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus, helping meet the environmental goals of the Santa Fe Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP) area. In addition to serving the City of Newberry, the facility will facilitate centralized wastewater treatment for the City of Archer, reducing reliance on septic systems within the Santa Fe BMAP area. The project also provides additional treatment capacity to support future economic development opportunities, including projects such as the AgFoodTech Park and other regional growth initiatives. This project reflects years of planning, collaboration, and partnership among local, regional, and state organizations working together to protect natural resources, improve public infrastructure, and support sustainable growth throughout North Central Florida.
The City of Newberry extends its sincere appreciation to the many organizations whose partnership and support helped make this project possible, including the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), AtkinsRéalis, the City of Archer, Baker Water, and Wright-Pierce.
The City would also like to recognize event sponsors AtkinsRéalis and Woodard & Curran for their generous support of the groundbreaking ceremony.
Community leaders, regional partners, elected officials, media representatives, and members of the public are invited to attend and celebrate this historic investment in the future of North Central Florida.
